Wednesday, 11 April: Costume Store Re-focus
I was assigned to work on the 18th century breeches as my second piece for the costume store, which will mostly look like this when finished (except in a thick brown wool):
 |
| Front of breeches |
 |
| Back of breeches |
 |
| Front of breeches detail |
Because of being made of wool they will be more like peasant or tanner breeches with cheaper buttons than the example above. The measurements I was given were 34" waist and 40" hip. For the week we were to cut and mark tack the pieces ready to go for next week, and to have a 2.5cm seam everywhere except center back which has a 5cm seam at the waist graduated down to 2.5cm at the crotch; the cut pieces are pictured below (I cut the top fabric on Friday, 13 April because I went home ill Weds, missing the Breathe Together taster evening):
We set up a late night study Tuesday, 17 April, for anyone who needs to finish their shirts, so I will be going in to finish my collar and buttons, and Dexter decided from now on, on Wednesdays he will be finishing at 3 to give us space to solve problems for ourselves and develop a more critical eye, being able to decide for ourselves whether the piece is good enough or if it should be re-done.
I will go more into detail about the individual pieces we are making once we have started making prototypes, but am feeling a lot more excited about the project now that we have finished designs!
